TE AKOHA JOCKEY CLUB'S ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of tha Te Aroha Jockey Club was held on the club's course on Monday la-t, and was in every way an unqualified success. The weather was all that could be desired, and there must have been quite 800 people present during the afternoon. The excellent arrangements, which were carried through without i hitch, evidenced great attention on the part of the energetic secretary, Mr P. Snewin, who left nothing undone tnat could add to the success of the gathering. 001. Fraser, M.H.R., officiated as judge, nnd Mr J. Mills as clerk of the scales. Mr (J. McCullagh, in the absence of Mr Jno, McNicol, made his debut as starter, and was most successful; indeed, the excellent way in which he handled the large fields was the subject of universal comment, and gained for him the approval of everybody— owners, jockeys, and the general public. The programme was a very good one, and large fields faced the starter in nearly every event. No serious accidents occurred to mar the day's enjoyment. The following is a detailed account of the racing :— Handicap Hurdles, of £25. Distance, 2 miles. Mr J. Brown's Pretender, list (W. McMinamin) 1 Mr N. Dickey's Silvio, lOst 101b ... 2 Bine Peter .. 3 Platch and Paddy also ran. Platch fell during the race, giving his jockey (Scarboro) a severe shaking. There was a good race all the way between Sylvio and Pretender. The latter nearly came down at the second hurdle from home, when Sylvio got a lead of a couple of lengths. Pretender, however, made up the lost ground, and after a splendid finish, won by about half a length. Time, 4m. 20s. Dividend, 19s. Maiden Plate, of £12. Distance, 1J miles. Weight for age. Mr P. Grant's Arawa. 1 Mr T. Sladn's Caprice 2 Seven other.-! started. Won easily. A protest was entered against Arawa as having won a race previously. The decision was adjourned for a fortnight. Dividend, 19s.

Pony Rack, of £10. Distance, J mile. Mr Rowa's Opal, Cat 711) 1 Mr Aratnete's Ned, Bst 2 Mr F. Williams' Pet, Gst 7lb 3 Five others started. Ned was leading until about ten yards from home, when Opal came with a rush and won by about a head. Time. lrn. 235. Dividend, £6 15s. District Hack Rack, of lOsovs. Distance, One mile. Mr Franklin's Spy, 9st t Mr N. Dickey's Mayflower, 9st t Christopher, 9st 3 Seven others also ran. This was a splendid race, both horses being locked together nearly all the way. The dead heat was run off at the end of the meeting when Spy won. Te Aroha Jockey Clcb Handicap, of 50sovs. Distance, 1A miles. Mr H. Bullonk-Webster's b g Never Miss

Mr Clarke's Laird, Bst 111b, 1 Mr McCutcheon's Lifebuoy, Bst 51b, ... 2 Mr McCann's Paddy, Sst 111b, 3 Laird, who won easily, was subsequently sold for £15. Railway Plate, of *20sovs. Distance, One mile. Mr Hannon's ch m Haricot, 7st 71b, (Pennell) I Mr McMinamin's b m Tuna, Bst 121b, 2 Mr Dickey's b g Bulrush, 6st 71b, ... 3 La Grippe, Uncle Bob, Never Miss, Minnie, Ringtail, May and Willie started.
