The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company rei>"rt under dati : — Christchuhoh, February 26.— Store Sheep.—After yesterday's sale, there can he little doubt in the minds of those who are not in the know that the demand for store sheep is ulmost unprecedented in Canterbury, i.e., talking of modern days. The bulk of the grain is safe now, and farmers aw beginning to look round for uheep; a number are offering, the demand apparently exceeds the supply four-fold, more particularly as regards cross-breds. Yesterday's entry consisted of from 10,000 to 12,000 of all descriptions. A largo and keen attendance followed the sale all through, and we believe every sheep offered was aolcl. Prices, which it is almost needless to say were highly satisfactory to vendors, were, viz., a splendid line of 2500 merino wethers from Mount Parnassus brought 9s 4d, and were bought for turniping. Store half and cross-bred lambs brought 9s to 10s ; small cull do 7s to 8s ; twotooth cross-breds,l2s to 14s ; four-tooth crossbred owes, to 14s ; sound-inouthed do., lis to 12s ; failing do, 8s to lis ; sound-mouth merino ewes, 7s : failing and broken do, 4s to (is.—Fat Lambs :An average supply was penned, and the sale was watched keenly by all classes of buyers, viz., the trade, exporters and graziers, resulting in an allround good clearance. Values ranged from lis to 12s 7d for good quality.—Fat Sheep : Phiu fillottad to this class were well filled, though the entry cannot bo called a heavy one. The quality, however, was above the average, and with good competition at the hands of exporters and the tradn—the former huying with more elnsticity than of late—full values were made for each class. Best cross-breds made up to l(Ss 4d.—Fat Cuttle : A small entry, and some recovery in prices. Best beef made equal to 20s per 1001b, and »o>d frenlv at that.—Store and D.iiry Cattle : A sm <11 yarding of grazing cattle, with a continued strong demand. Thiry stock was also well competed for.
