Th* Waikato Timet Office, Monday. AUCKLAND PRODUCE MARKETS. Mkhsrs Kkam and Arthur's Weekly RKrORT. —Business in tlm produce department lias been confined to local wants and up-couutry order*. Potatoes : Supplies have been np to requirements : quality continues varied ; values remain about previous quotations. We am advised that Waikato-grown will bo ready three weeks hence. Cereals : Very little change to report. Business is confined to sm all lines. New local oats have sold at Is !>d to Is lOd, Rood sainp'es. Large supplies will shortly be sent to market. Onions, as we anticipated, have fallen considerably, there being no outlet just now beyond local wants. Cheese has heen c'enred almost onarrival. Tho supply and demand are, however, about equal. Dairy p-odnca : The demand for prime fresh butter is maintained at fully last week's prices. Our supplies havo been considerable for kept sorts. Inquiries have been more limited this week. Eggs are scarcer, whilst tho demand is greater. Every line of guaranteed quality commands (rood prices. We had no local bacon entered. Fruit: Supplies were very heavy on Friday, the sale occupying three hours and a-half Ir.r its disposal. Quality all round was considerably better, particularly apples, of which we had somn fine samples ; prices ranging from Id to ljd ; inferior sorts had t) be sold at per case, and barely realised fr.iight and charges. Plums were better value. Grape* were entered in considerable quantity; over 50 cases sold by auction. Poultry : About the usual quantity penned ; prices about the same. Mb Alkx. aitken's Market Report for the week ending March s:—The past week has been a busy one, and a large amount of general produce, etc., has been disposed of ; auction sales have been four in number, all largely attended, with fair competition, the Bile of tailors' stock and furniture, etc., at Qneen-street, drew a l attendance, and ttood prices were obtained ; in farm produce the supply has beon very heavy ; potatoes in vary heavy supply, and the market has been a shade easier, up-country lots aro now coining to hand, and are somewhat better in Bumple, a good quantity has been put through, although stock is yet heavy, prime samples, £3 to £3 10s: other lots, 30s to 50s; cow potitoes, 20s to 26s ; maize, is plentiful and a good quality has been disposed of at 2s per bushel ; oats, local lots, are
now coming to hand, and selling at la 9d to 2s ; wheat a few small consignments realised 9d; onions are plentiful but have met with very satisfactory demand al §:l to j[d, and inn few cases Garlic remain unsaleable. Bran and sharps unchanged in values. Vegetables came to hand in large quantities, and sold at fair values. Fresh butter has beon plentiful, and goner illy of poor quality; best parcels 8d to 9Jd ; other indifferent lota, fid to 7Jd ; keg butter continues in strong demand at 7d to Sd; for prime spring made Gd to G|d for paltry many makers holding for higher prices, bat as the season for shipping is about over, supplies from Taranaki might soon be expected. Eggs h iva heen in better supply, and the demand very str ing; all lines guaranteed realised from Is Id to Is 3Jd per (Won. Oheess has gone off freely; prime dairy, 3VI to 4d ; poor lots, 2j:d to 3d ; loaves •f.l ; factory cheese, 4.U1, and up to 5d for loaves, Honey ; A parcel in 10!b tins realised 3.k1; section, 3d to 3 id. Fruit supplios have been heavy, and competition has been more keen ; all lots have sold at a considerible advance, excepting quinces, which rule very low.
