MR McNICOL'S SECOND SHEEP FAIR.

DuHfESS and lack of competition characterised yesterday's sale at Ohaupo, and generally speaking prices were in favour of the buyer. Notwithstanding that the turnip crop may now be looked upon as pretty well assured, the difficulty of providing feed in the meantime made buyers cautious. Aβ the season advances we quite expect to see prices for all classes of sheep improve. Cattle have become so scarce and dear that it will be out of the question looking in this direction, to feed off the large areas of turnips that have been sown this seeson, and graziers must necessarily fall back upon sheep. For this reason it is safe to predict that, as at the end of thn season last year, an improved demand will set in, with a corresponding rise in pricee. The two. tooth Lincoln ewes from the Matamata Estate, purchased by Air John Gordon, of Woodlands, at 14s, topped the market, Mr Stiirfly securing similar class sheep from tho Lockerbie Estate nt 12s sd, both lots being ovengoodeheep. Fat wetherssold ui fe 11s 4d, lambs from 4s to 8s 6d, Merino ewes 2s lid to 4* 9d. A fine lot of young Merino ewes were held over at a reserve of 5s 9d. There was very little competition for rams, 3.V guineas being the highest price, paid by Mr Rich for two bred by Mr Storey. The balance of thia lot was sold at three'guineas and two and a-half guineas. The following is a detailed account of the sale: — 8. d. John Kenny—lso Longwnol ewes (4tooth to full mouth), H.
