EVENING PARTY AT PUKETE.
A YERY pleasant evening party, organised by the young ladies of the district, came off in the Pukote school-room on Friday last, there being a numerous attendance, including several visitors from other districts. We need scarcely say that, under such auspices, the arrangements were perfect, and admitably carried out. the refreshments being ample and good. The music (alas ! they had to call in one of the male sex for this) was provided by Mr Henrickson. The name of tho M.C. we have unfortunately mis-laid, but believe it suunded something like Willie Mac. One noticeable, alboit very pleasant, feature about the Pukete entertainment id the sociable and friendly feelings which appear to run throughout the hosts and guests, and the absence of that stiffness and ceremony which is very often vulgarly referred to in the colonies as " putting on side." The Pukete district is advancing in population and importance, but we trust it will be long before its settlers -lose the neighbourly feelings, which, a fter all, are one of the greatest charms of country life.
