THE RIVAL ROUTES.

(by telegraph.—own correspondent.) Auckland, Last Night. The Northern Railway League being anxious that there should be no break in the chain of evidence bearing upon the comparative advantages of the Stratford and Central routes have decided to send Mr Wilssn, C.K, to explore that portion of the latter line which was not inspected by Messrs Cadman and Lawry during theiv recent journey overland from Wellington to Waikato. It will be remembered that when on the south-eastern confines of the Waimarino block which is traversed by the central surveyed line the Native Minister and Mr Lawry diverged to the east to ascertain the character of the land in that direction which might be suitable for settlement, and they did not again strike the Central line till towards the northern extremity of the block named. It is the portion of line left unexplored by these gentlemen to which it is now intended to send a representative from the League to inspect. Mr Wilson will probably lea\'e Auckland to start on this trip next Monday. From hie report on the country through which he will tratel, the public will be furnished with complete evidence from an expert source with respect to the relative merits of the two routes, both from an engineering and settlement point of view.
