WHAT IS NOTHING?
TO THE BDITOR. Sib,—To oblige " Truth " and myself, will you insert in your paper a reply to his letter of the 18th inst. Ha wants me to define nothing. It is not an entity, for that is a thing, a being, but nothing is nonexistent, and like soul, spirit, etc., cannot be otherwise described. God is said to be a spirit, and I have somewhere seen spirit defined as a thing without parts or passions, and that is about the best definition of nothing I ever saw. Whether the above is new to " Truth " I cannot say. As for making merry at the expense of my Maker, I think that making merry at nothing is not a great crime, and as for the " Atheist's laugh," quoted from Burns, it seems to me a pot v. kettle quotation. I would recommend " Truth " to read " Hoiy Willie's Prayer," or " Man Was Made to Mourn." In the first he will see the ereatest sneer against his Maker that was ever written, and in the second the question why this was thus. To my mind the potsherd had a perfect right to question the potter, and in that Burns and I are at one. As far searching the Scriptures, you can find authority there tor any theory you like. See " Phallic worship " by Joseph Syines. It advocates that the Christian Godhead was represented in Bible times by part of a man's body. The work in question has gone through many editions, and is equally as well authenticated as our present Christianity. Therefore lam still in the wilderness, and I am afraid " Truth ' is as bushed as myself. Thanking you for this and other favours, —I am, &c., A Man Stilt, rN thk Wilderness.
