HARVEST FESTIVAL AT TUHIKARAMEA.
The Rev. Mr Thomas, Wesleyan minister, conducted a harvest thanksgiving service at Tuhikaramea last Sunday afternoon, lhe little schoolroom was beautifully decorated with fruit and Sowers. Indeed some of the wreaths and scroll work evidenced considerable artistic taste and skill on the part of the ladies of the district, who worked together in the common cause. A large congregation including some visitors, assembled to hear Mr Thomas, Miss Davys presiding with her usual efficiency at the harmonium. The rev. preacher delivered an eloquent and impressive sermon, referring, in the course of it, to the favourable circumstances attending the present harvest, as contrasted with those of last year, and also touched upon the disasters, which, in the shape of storms and floods, have recently overtaken our fellow settlers in the other Island. Mr Thomas pointed out with the skill of an able theologian the advantages in all these changes, instancing—with a touch of humour—that even in the magic lantern business, all was not sunshine, from which we may conclude, that the able lecturer upon the cook Islands, has—occasionally—his bad, as well as his good nights.
