Melbourne, February 16. AT a crowded meeting of citizens, it was resolved to petitioia the Government against Mr Munro's appointment to the Agenfc-Genralship. A slight alteration has been made in the portfolios of the Miaistry, Mr Davics becomes Postmaster-General, Mr Oiittrim taking the portfolio of Minister of Defence, which he will hold in addition to that of Minister of Mines. Mr Wynne, who has hitherto not been included in the Cabinet, becomes Minister ot Justice. The general elections take place in the second or third week in April. Mr Shiels, the Premier, proposes that the taxation be increased, in order to assist the finances of the colony. Mr Shiels, was anxious to secure the cooperation of Sir Graham Berry and Sir Bryan O'Loghlin ; but the idea brought him into collision with his old colleagues. The dispute was followed by a reconciliation in the shape of the present reconstruction. His Excellency the Governor to-day received a notition from the citizens against the* appointment of Mr Munro as Agent-General. In reply he explained that he was unable to do more than to refer the petitioners to the Cabinet which had duly appointed Mr Munro.
