ANNUAL MEETING, The annual meeting of the subscribers of this well-managed institution was held last week in the roadinf,-room. There was a very fair attendance, and Mr Vause was elected chairman.
Rki'oht and Balance Sheet -.—The annual repoit and balance sheet was read hy the secretary, and unanimously adopted. The report was as follows : —" Your committee have much pleasuro in reporting that during the past twelve months the library and reading room have maintained thbir popularity, and continue to be well-sup-ported, the nuo.ber of subscribers during the past year being larger than for any previous year. The total number of subscribers during 1891 was 73. The number for the previous year was GB. The total subscriptions received during 1891 amounted to £30 Is fid, and total receipts from all sources £47 15s Od, as compared with £22 8s 81 and £42 15s(id, respectively, during 1890. Tho tota'. expenditure during the year amounted to £42 17a lid, which includes a suin of £15 Bs, spent on the erection of verandah, painting and other necessary works and repairs. Owing to these heavy demands upon the revenue, your committee were unable to add to the number of books on the shelves to any great extent. A few recent popular works have, however, been added during the year, and it is anticipated that the revenue for the ensuing six months will allow of a large purchase of new books at an early date. The number of books issued to members during the year was 2334. The number issued during the previous year was 1902. The reading-room has continued to be well attended, and a magazine club in connection therewith successfully established. Messrs Mandeno, Miller and Vause having giving their time and services on such evenings of the week as the Librarian does not attend, have enabled the reading room to be kapt open daily. Owing to various causes, your committee were unablo to ariMiige for tho annual entertainment in aid of tho Library in November last, but notwithstanding this the year just closed has been a very successful one financially, and it is hoped that the
present support and popularity of the institution will be long continued." Committkk. —It was decided that tho committee consist of seveu members as before and the old member!! —Messrs Cox. Andrew, Rees, Vause, Burgess, Maiideno, and Miller, were unanimously re-elected. Messrs Ahior and Walton were re-elected auditors. Tha.vks.—Mr Rees proposed a heavy vote of thanks to Mr Vause for his many services during the year a-f chairman and secretary. This was seconded by Mr Cox. and carried unanimously. Votes of thanks were also passed to the outgoing committee and auditors, and another to the chair concluded a very successful meeting. COMMITTEE MEETING. At a meeting of the new committee held after the general meeting, Mr Vause was re-elected chairman for the ensuing year. It was decided to make an effort, by inducing members to pay their annual subscriptions in advance, to raise sufficient funds to order new books at once, to add to the attractiveness of the library.
