TE AWAMUTU.
Rklirf.—Mr Gribblo. of Auckland, is temporarily takine charsre of our local branch of the Bank of New Zealand while Mr Burgess is away ou a well earned holiday. This is the first spell the latter has had since he has been raking iu our deposits, over three years, so he is now enjoying his otium cum dipr, digging <>" the sands on the beach at Kawhia. Mrs Burgess and family »re with him. There has been quite an exodus this week of our leading families, all of them off to the seaside. Ecci.KSi4STiCAL.-The Rev. John Haselden paid us his usual monthly visit last Sunday and preached ti> a lnrge congregation in St. John's Church in the evening. In the course of an earnest address he laid before the congregation the plain ■fact that they must take steps to get a resident clergymen. Hβ thought the four districts of Alexandra, KihiShi, Rangiaehia and Tβ Awamutu could surely support one between them. They had had the services of a regular visiting clergyman for once a month at a very «nall cost to the Church but this was not the legitimate work of the Home mission and it could not go on much longer. When Mr Holer left them nearly two years ago they were in debt, but they were now slightly in funds and must all pull together and make some sacrifice so as to put things on a better footing. He also epoke about repairs to the Church that must be a tended to, and he thought everybody should help in this as all denominations used the Churchyard for burials. . MKD&AL.-I regret to learn that Dr. Rowley is leaving the district and going to the metropolis. During the 18 months he has bnen here, although he did not take any prominent part m public life, he has become deservedly well liked for his skill and foresight and the conscientious way he attended to one and all. "We have not heard yet of a successor, but it is rather a serious thing for a large district like ours to be without a medical man. Sporting.—Waikato footballers and others friends of Mr All Burton who knew him when he lived at Tβ Rore a year or two n™, and played for the: Paterangi Football Club will read with pleasure the news of his success at the Champion Athletic Meeting just finished at Chnstehiiri'h On Friday last, the first day, ho wa,lust beaten in the Three Mile Walk by his old *val Cocks, but on the next day, however, lie reversed the order of things by winding the One Mile Waking in the humming time of 7inin. 5 4:sth sec. and thus once mord remains champion amateur milo walkej of New iJealuud.
