HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL
Thr usual monthly meeting of the above Council was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening. There were present • His Worship the Mayor (Mr I. Coates), and Crs. Salmon, Ball, Slade, Wood, Scott,
and Sandes. * Crossing.—Messrs Davey and laylor wrote, requesting the Council to instruct the foreman of works to put a twelve foot culvert across the water-table in frant of their properties in Victoria-atreet.—Re-ferred to the foreman of worlt3, with power to act. Badger's Statutes. — The clerk was authorised to procure the second volume of the new issue of Badger's Statutea. Rrports.—The foreman of works reported that during the month the edge of Victoria-street North had been ploughed, a culvert laid in Victoria-street, pipes laid in Collingwood and Grey-streets, the corner of Gray-street made up with screened gravel, and other works too numerous to particularise. — The report was received and adopted.—The poundkeeper reported that one cow and six horses had been impounded during the month of January, und Vu Gd received in fees.—The report was received and adopted.—The dog registrar reported having registered up to date 52 dogs at 5s and two at 10s each. Pa\"MBNTB.— The following accounts were passed for payment:—John Knox, £3 3s 9d ; Miinktelow, £4 4s: T. Slade, 15s: J. Frear, 10s: G. Mnyes. £2 2s ; Jones, 18s; Winter, 4s (3d j Kelly, 4s; Dey, 3s; R. Hines, 33. Salvation Ausir.—The report of the Legal Committee, deferred from last meeting for a fuller meeting, dealing with the proposed by-law re the Salvation Army, was again deferred. Licensing Clerk.— Thi clerk was instructed to write to the Government, applying that tho town clerk be appointed clerk to the Borough of Hamilton Licensing Committee. Works.—The foreman of works was authorised to clear some furze on Selkirkstreet, and t'« form a portion of the footpath in Collingwood-street. Sbwagk.—With reference to Mr Hatrick's application for Dipes to carry sewage, received at last meeting, Cr. Sandes moved : " That the application be not granted, and that the Inspector of Nuisances be into inspect the drainage of Mr Hati?ick's premises, and report to a special meeting, if negesjiary." Seconded by Cr. Salmon, and carriod unanimously. Fuit/.E.— The Mayor reported that the forze was apain making headway, espeoully on the East side, and stringent action would have to be taken at an early dat<\— The clerk was instructed to send out final Bosses to all those having failed to eradicate their fupze, and, failing compliance with which, immeiiiafce action be taken.
