THE ENGLISH CRICKTERS.
(by electric telegraph.—copyright). Sydney, February 2. To-day's pl'y in the cricket match between the English and Australians was characterised by the greatest excitement. Banneriiiaii and Bruce brought the score into the third century before their partnership was dissolved. McLend, after batting, had to return to Melbourne owing to a family bereavement. Moses, because of injury to his leg, was unable to b.it at the last moment, consequently the Australian team played only ten men. The innings closed for 391, leaving the Englishmen 230 to make to win. Banneinian, whose score amounted to !)!, was nearly nine hours at the wickets. Heavy showers of rain fell at intervals during the afternoon, interfering with the game. When the stumps were drawn for the day Lord Sheffield's Eleven had lost three wickets for eleven runs : Grace ~>, Bean 1, Abel 1, Stodd.iri (not out.), 1. February 3. The Englishmen were only able to put on IoG in their second innings, so that the Australians win the match with 74 runs to spare.
