(BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.—COPYRIOHT . Paris, February 1. TitK new French tariff is expected to increase the imports of English goods. The prices of food are rising in Paris in consequence of the new tariff coming into operation to-day. Several Parisian papers are asking how contracts can be safely made in view of the precarious character of the tariff, and accuse the protectionists of plunging France ir.to a dangerous venture. February 2. A mutton famine is threatened in the city owing to the great increase in the tariff. Negotiations between France and Spain for the purpose of continuing the old tariff have failed. The news has caused considerable interest in the wine trade.
