(BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION'). Wellington, Last Night. The case of HiUlatie, a pa-toral tenant who was fined by the Receiver of the Land lievenae, the maximum penalty of one pound per day for being thirty days late in payment of rent, whs b.;f.>re the Land Board to-day. The Crown Solicitor's opinion was read to the effect that the penalty must bo fixed and received through the Resident Magistrate's Court, but a member expressed ail opinion that it was the intention of Parliament that the Board should assess the fine. Haldane wrote admitting his fai.lt, and stating that he had no money when the rent fell due. It was resolved to reduce the amount to one shilling per day, and the Receiver was instructed to submit eases of a similar nature to the Board to give them an opportunity to fix the fine. The Gazette to-night contains the now electoral districts as defined by the commission under the Representation Act of iSB7. Policemen 011 beats in the various school districts are to be truant officers, and will act under the direction of the local committee, serving a notice upon the wanderers' parents in the first instance, and afterwards following them up by summonses if necessary.
