CAMBRIDGE PUBLIC LIBRARY.

In accordance with a promise given at the early part of last year that we would, if requested, publish the report and baliucesheet relatfng to the above institution previous to the annual meeting, we give the fullest information, which ha 3 kindly been furnished by the librarian. Annual Rbpokt.— The report of the committee i 3 as follows :—Your committee have pleasure in reporting that the library continues to keep up its reputation in the eyes of the public, and that the number of subscribers has, in fact, somewhat increased during the pa3t year. This your committee considers very satisfactory, and they trust that the large number of works by modern authors, which have been recently placed on the shelves of the library, will result in increased suuport from the reading public. Your committee would direct attention to the groat obligation under which the institution is laid to the ladies and gentlemen who kindly took part in the concert and dramatic entertainment on September 18th last, with a result so successful that the net sum of £36 was lealisod. The receipt of this sum has enabled your committee to purchase 184 new works, besides reducing its liability to Mr Dods from £20 to £10, which amount there seems good reason to hope that the coining year may see extinguished. The maximum number af subscribers during the past year was 150, and the subscriptions recoived £53. The excess of liabilities over assets on December 31sf;, 1890, was £14 8s 6d, whilst on 31st December last your committee are pleased to report that there was a slight surplus of assets over liabilities.
