HEAVY RAINFALL.

Thk rainfall "was so phenomenally heavy on Saturday last that .sumo of the down pipes were unable to carry olf the water in the arcade. .Several shops were oomplet ly flooded, and tnuch damage done t ■ st >cU. The water poured down tho sides of Me.s.-rs Ross and Glendinning's warehouse, flooding the cellars, and causing several liali-s of tweed to float about. Messrs Kempthorne, PiMflscr and Co.'s warehouse, and Mr Uoss?U'd st'ire were also badly visitod. The shops on the southern side <<f Rattraystreet, would have been badly flooded ha'i I the rain lasted much longer, WELLINGTON, Inst Night.
There was a very heavy fall of rain last night. The fltroet.s have been flooded, and tho footpaths scoured out in many places in the more precipitous localities.
