WHATAWHATA.
Camstmah Greetings.— Since the readers ' of Tho Waikato Time« had last the plen- 1 Hure of reading iny lucubrations Christinas has come and gone, bringing with it all the old associations, that somehow or another seem to come back regularly with the neason. iu spite of the hardening itiHucnced of the times. Perhaps I may be allowed to offer the uiiial greetings, not only to the readers but to my follow scrihblers. District correspondents are not quite perfect— 1 though justly considered to be very nearly ho —and it is as well perhaps that a, retrospective view should be taken occasionally as to what we have, or what is sometimes of more importance—wo havo not done. Although endeavouring, in this onerous position, like the latter-day politicians, who balance themselves on the rail for the purpose, it is supposed, of seeing which is the largest crowd to do justice to all and sundry, 1 may at times havo unwittingly offended some. I freely forgive them, I can't say no fairer thau that. The Races.—At a meeting of the race committee held on Wednesday ovening, a large ainoent of business was got through. The acceptances for handicap and hurdles wero satisfactory, and orood entries were received for the other events. Arrangements were mado re the course which is the old one running through the township flat, Mr Iwerson's fences being removed for the day. If tho committee are favoured with tine weather on New Years' Day, good racing should eventuate, and it is to be hoped that tho large number of liberal subscribers to our race funds, from the Ngaruawahia, Hamilton, and other districts will bo present. The distauce is short and the roads are good.
