RAILWAY EXTENSION.

Mk Jackson Palmbb, M.H.H,, has received the following telegram from the Minister for Public Works : " I shall be obliged if you will, in conjunction with His Worship tho Mayor and the other Auckland members ot Parliament, assist the Government in selecting men out of work fur employment on the Mokau section of the northern extension of the railway, which it is intended to put in hand .shortly. Tho Acting Hng!ne°r-in-Chief, who is now in Auckland, can furnish you with any information desived.—H. J. Skddon."
Mr Hales, acting Engineer-in-Chief of the Public Works Department, isnt present in Auckland, making arrangements for the various authorised works. The first work to be started is a five mile section from the terminus uf the Whangaroi line at Kaino to Hikurangi. The next in order will be the twelve niilo section of the Tha.nes V alloy Hiiilway from Te Anilia towards I':ier.iii nnd this five mile section of the North Is]uiid Miiin Trunk Kailtvay between iMokau and l'orolarao Tunnel will bo commenced as somi as the plant is aiailable. Tenders arc , to be let for the extension of tlio railway towards ltuturun, but on tho other works ineu will bo employed on the co-operative principles,
