SOUTH AUCKLAND RACING CLUB'S SUMMER MEETING.

(hy tiritATiiMoui-:). The iiftli annual ir.'.rting "[ t "ie South Auckland H ming Club will be cmnmnnc-d at, the Claiidelaiiils r«m»r-i! I Miiormw, and will b' continued mi t.liu following day. This is the fir-t two (lavs' mneliiig that the Club hits hr-ld, and juiL'in. , fr nn appu.nranees at present theie is i very pr.isp.ict of its being a siiccss. Tin: course is in r-xcelli:nt condition, the rain during this h>4 few days having improved it splendidly. Mr Carter has been giving it unceasing attention since the autumn iiiUi'linc, and the going is now all that could be desired. One of the jumps in the Steeplechase— tile sod wall and d lull oppo.sito the stand—has been unproved, and tho other jumps attended to. The tot:tlisator house has been enlarged, and thive totalisators, under the management of Mes-rs piootnfield and Co., will be worked conjointly throughout the meeting, ho that tho puhlic will not experience any inconvenience in this particular. The Hamilton Brass Hand, under Bandmaster Mittani, will be in attendance, atid will, no doubt, lend much to the enjoyment of (he gathering. Tho programme to be rendered will be found on the page before tho first race in each day's cards. Mine Host of the Royal Hotel, Hamilton (Mr T. Buxton) will dispense liquid refreshments at the Grand Stand bar, and a substantial luncheon will bo provided hy Mrs T. M. Hill. The temperance booth, under the management of Mr A. H. Calder, will, no doubt, be largely patronised, an attractive feature being ice crof.ms.

The racing to-morrow will commence at half past twelve, and with the excellent arrangements at the disposal of the Club, the various events will be kept well up to time. Seven events are set down on the cird, as follows :—Maiden Plate, Maiden Hurdles, South Auckland Cup, First .Steeplechase, Tradesmen's Plate, Novel, and Flying Stakes.

The following are my selections for the various events, but "picking" is rendered very difficult as I do not know what horses are coming from Auckland :—Maiden : Caprice ; with Vienx Rose second. Maiden Hurdles : Tommy or Scaltheen, Cup : Pinfire, Loch Ness, Haricot. Steeplechase: Sentinel or Scaltheei). Tiudnsinens' Plate : Lenrinn, Tulloch. Novel: Mistake, Taipo. Flying : Loch Ness or Priscilln.

The course during; the past few miming liiis been looking very lively, a number cf local horses being out.
