TE AWAMUTU.

Vor.UNTKEiUj.—The Mounted RiHes began tlipir annual six days'training last Monday, and the camp will be as successful this year as any held of lata years. There is a large contingent from Raglan and Whatawhata, malting in all forty troopers under canvas. A number of these are recruits, but they are all well mounted, and seem to shape very well and take a great interest in all the details of their work. The horses this year are altogether of a better stamp than usual, and them are some fine jumpers among them. Every evening there are some leapinß matches taking place, causing great amusement and enlivening the monotony "f the camp. Maj"r G ring and Adjutant-Lieutenant Grant arrived on Tuesday from Auckland to make tho usual inspection. All the men are growling about their new uuiforms not being ready. It appears the tail ir in Auckland undertook to have their new mounted rifle uniform ready soma weeks ago, hut, they had not come to hand on Saturday last. Yesterday and to day (Tuesdav) telegrams were sent ad lib, but, no sign of the loug-wished-for ontlil. They are expected now by Wednesday's train, so the men wil: have them in time for the cavalry ball 011 Friday uighfc, if nothing else ; if not, they mav still get them in time for tho Auckland military sports next Easter. Many of the Raglan men came over in mufti, ex pecting to find their new uniforms heiv, and this gives the parades rather a nondescript. appearance, thr.mgh no fault of the company. Besides the usual parades and drill 011 Mcnday and Tuesday, there were several squads going through their class tiring, so that there is now very little of this to do. Tho company drill on tho racecourse, and it would be difficult to get a better place for the evolutions. They intend holding their sports there next Saturday, to which they cordially invite all the general public, and areally good afternoon's fun nmy be expected.

Kntkrtainment.— Tlio To Awamutu Musical Society's concert, consisting nf t ho sacred cantata " Christ am] His Soldiers," will take place next Wednesday evening in the hall. All thu well-known prominent members of the Society aro to givo solos, besides which several ct' the younger member* aro to make their first bow to the public. I hope the different members of the community will buck thu Society up by turning out 111 the large numbers that the excellence of the music deserves.
