DESTRUCTIVE FIRE.

Oasiaiiu, Last Night, A DBSTKUCnvE fire at Jvunnv on Saturday night completely destroyed the principal block "f buildings in the township, The Public Hall, the principal Hotul, general store, and two smaliur stores and dwelling liiuso comprise tho buildings which wore destroyed. The fire started in Tliiole'a dwelling house attached to his store, and wad ciused by a caudle igniting the curtain.-; of the bud-chamber, where two children were sleeping, the latter were only rescued just in time. A strong was blowing and fanned Uio Huns*. Hardly anything was suvui from the store and dwelling house. The hotel liwxt door quickly caught but the bulk of the furniture in tins and thu buildings K-.ibsequGiitly destroyed was saved. A nvin named Miniday upstairs m the hottsl tried tu save aoino things and before he could retreat he was badly burned about tlu head mid arms and was brought into tin: Oatimru Hospital. Thu insurances are as follows: — Dolarney's Hotel, South British, £1,400, tdinsured as follows: New Zealand, £-'flO, Standard, £2">o, Commercial Union, £2. r io, North Oaf man, £250; Thiele's ston;, £1,100 in the New Zealand OlKce, which retain £850 and reinsures the balance as follows: North Gorman, £140, Victoria, £280, Norwich Union, £140, National, £280, Phoneix, £210. The Public Hall was iu- ■ ured for £200 in the North German Office, and Waddell's (tailor) hid a line of £125 in tho South British Office. King's dwelling house was insured in the same office fur £128. Tho total damage was estimated at £5000, of which upwards of £'3000 is covered by insurance.
