SURPRISE PARTIES.
TO THE EDITOU. Sin,—Your "Cambridge correspondent" appears to feel hurt that Secretary's "surprise party" was a failure. It must be galling after he had gouo to the expousn of such delightful cards and speut so much timo writing invitations to find he is not appreciated, but no doubt the secretary (who is a now comer) has not been accustomed to good society or ho would have known that respectablo pareuts would not allow their young daughters to meet him without chaperons under a verandah iu a public street at 7.30 p.m. I do not believe Mr and Mrs Sargent would feel offended that this surprise party fell through when they knew all the circumstances. It is fortunate for the Secretary that "Busy Body " has not a big brother in Cambridge or he might require a nurse and a pair of goggles for Sundays.—l am, etc, Collar an'b Ci"ff.s,
