In tho Foal St. ikes, which was the opening event on tho programme. Strathmore made an exhibition of tlio-e opposed to him, and won with ridiculous nasa. White, the rider of Mr (Julian's filly, Tiraillerie, did not persevere when lie sliv pursuit was hopeles--. 'Itie time recorded was exceptionally fast, considering the victory was such a hollow one'. The victory of Mr W. R. Wilson's cnlt Steadfast in the Canterbury Plate was recived with tremendous applause. Harris* the rider of Marvel, was m ule the recipient ot a very hostile demonstration, lie certainly threw away whatever chance Marvel had by attempting to get inside, and when lie pulled out 110 made a very wide, .sweep. Tho following are the results of the principal events : —

Steadfast went away with the lead, the pace being very slow, and 2m. 3l?s. were registered as the time for the first mile and a-quafter. Half a mile from home they were all at it, but when Marvel attempted to get up he failed, and a good finish between the other pair resulted in a half-head victory for Steadfast, Marvel a length away, Time, tinin.

Won easily by a length and a-quarter, two and ahalf lengths between the second and third horses. Later. On returning to scale yesterday afternoon at the finish of the Canterbury Plate Harris entered a charge against Moore of foul riding ; but, after inquiry, the stewards dismissed it, ordering Harris to appear before them at three o'clock on Tuesday afternoon to explain his own peculiar riding of Marvel. Some of Harris' displays during the Meeting—notably on Correze in the Melbourne Cup—are considered to be most unsatisfactory.
