SAD OCCURRENCE.
A YOUNG LADY COMMITS surciDE. (BY TELRGHAIMI. — FKESS ASSOCIATION). Wellington, List Niftht. A HKNSATION was caused in town Lliis aftermum when tho news wns circulated tlvit Miss Mhoh! Hawkins, the youthen daiißhter of Mr R. S. Hnwliins, solicitor, had kwen found dead in tho Botanical Garden* with a bullot wound in her head. The body was fnund near the Terrace ontrance to thn gardens, and them was a terrible wound over her left eye, the Iv.illet having passed out by her ear. A six chambered revolver, of which two chambers had been discharged, was found beside her, and on her breast wan pinned a note asking that the news of her death should bo broken gently to her mothar. Miss Hawkins, who was 19 years of aee, had lately been attended for nervous depression, and was about to take a trip for a change of air and scenery. She lett home about 10.30 this morning, apparently in usual spirits. Her parents, who are naturally prostrate with the shock, are unable to give any reason lor the rash act, and are at a lobs to account for the possession of the revolver, which has the appearance of being quite new. An inquest will bo held tomorrow.
