NEWCASTLE ROAD BOARD.
Thk ordinary meeting of the above Baard was held on Wednesday 14th October instant. Present : M-ssrs Corboy (chairman), Byernft, McKnigJit, and I'Vsall. The minuter of last meeting having been read and confirmed, also tho inward correspondenc", some works on Khepheid's anil Pukete Roads were authorised to bo (ion.!. A few accounts were p;is>ed for payment ; Mr Sandes' account was left over until next meeting. .A circular purporting to bo a copy of tho platform of the National Association of New Zidaud was read and considered and i.ftT a lengthy disclaim], the Board revived as follows :-(l) That while the five planks in tho platf inn of the National Association ate deserving of consideration, at the, s-iuis time it is obvious from what fallows which unveils tho cloven foot, that the nriiieh.-al object of the Association is not so much in tii: interest of fair representation as it, is to get people handed together by a side wind to oust the Ballance Government from office who are providing means for placing struggling families as well as the young men of New Zealand on good land under the perpetual leasehold system with the prospect of cheap mnnev in the near future ; (a) That whereas tho s.o-callcd National Association first took its rise in the Australian colonies in the interests of capitalists, mortgage companies and the squatter class, which have so recently aggravated and carried on such a relentless war against labour is not of New Zealand origin but has been introduced second hand into this colony apparently with the same sinister object, requires to be viewed with grave apprehension ; (3) That in view of the foregoing, tho Board is of opinion that the planks in the platform would be more faithfully »ervod by tho electors getting enrolled under the banner of the Knights of Labour or the anti-Poverty Society, whose duty it would be to have all classes fairly represented in the Lower and Upper Houses and particularly in the latter until such time as the tyrannical power which it now exercises would be either neutralised or abolishel. A House not responsible to any section of the people for its actions should not be entitled to the confidence of any section claiming tho rights of free men by fair representation, after which the Board lose.
