WESLEYAN CHURCH HAMILTON.

HOME MISSIONARY MEETING. The annual Home Missionary meeting in connection with the Wesleyan Church of New Zealand for the Hamilton Circuit was held in the above Church on Tuesday evening. There was not a very large attendance, owing probably to it not being very generally known that the meeting was to take clace, and also to counter-attrac-tions. The Kev. J. Thomas, resident circuit minister, occupied the chair, and addresses were delivered by the Chairman, Revs. C. H. Garland (of Cambridge), Warren (Maori minister), and W, Gittos (Maori missionary), Mr Gittos interpreting for Mr Warren. The Maori minister gave a very interesting account of his mission in Waikato. He had heen transferred from Hokianga to the Waikato district by the last Wesleyan Conference, and during that short space of time he had visited Otorohanga, Te KuiLi, and the Upper Waipa districts. Thence he went to Whatawhata, Waitetuna, and tho Maori settlements near Raglan. Although the natives there were principally Hauhaus, and rejected Christianity, they received hiin gladly, wore exceptionally kind to him, attended the meetings in good numbers, and when he wont away invited him to come back again shortly. The rav. gentleman also gave an account of a Maori wedding at Waitetuna, which canned great amusement. In his address, Mr GiUos intimated that he had just recently visited Kihikihi, Te Awamtitu, and the other native settlements in that vicinity, when he was accorded a good reception at the hands of the principal chiefs, particularly Taonui and Rewi—which wa9 indeed a very good omen—who were tho means, to a very great extent, of making his mission thero a auccess. The rev. gentleman feels confident that the missionary work among the Maoris will make rapid strides in the near future in the Waikato district.
