ILLICIT STILLS.
(BY TELKOBAI'H.— OWN COIiItE.SI'ONDENT.) Auckland, Last Night. Edward Downing, John McDougall Simpson, and Robert Davis appeared at tho Police Court to-day charged that on tiie 2t)th of September, at Auckland, they did unlawfully have in their possession certain utensils and apparatus, including a copper boiler with piping and taps attached to the same, for tho distillation of spirit™, without having first obtained a licenso for keoping and using the same, they having thereby each become liable to a penalty of £500. There was also a second charge against tho same defendants, involving another .£SOO and forfeiture. Edward Downing was also charged with having tlie above mentioned articles on his premises in Customs-street West, without having obtained a license as required by the Act, thereby rendering himself liable to a penalty of £500. Tho cases were remandod till Tuesday next.
