RAGLAN.

Karioi LICENSING MEETING.—The annual meeting of the Karioi Licensing Committee was held in the Court-house, Raglan, on Monday last, at noon. Present; Messrs Gilmour, Henry, Pegler, Charlton, Campbell, and the native assessor (Wetini Wahanga. The Gazette notice of the 20th August, with the Order-in-Council, was read by the clerk, stating that owing to an error in not fixing the proper date of the previous meeting in June, the Governor had appointed this day (28th September), as the date for the holding of the annual meeting. The application of Martha Kenny for a publican's licence for a house in Cliff-Street, to be called the Royal Hotel, was first considered. Plans, specifications, inspector's report, &c., were read and considered. Mr Moon's application for a publican's license for the Harbour View Hotel, in Bow-street, was next considered. The inspector's report, being read and considered, the meeting was adjourned until 2 30 p.m., to enable the committee to inspect both houses. On resuming at 2.30 p.m., Mrs Kenny s application was first considered, and a license issued to the applicant. Mr Moon was also granted a license. In Mrs Kenny's case, the stable was to be floored with suitable material, and some other improvements, which are in execution, carried out. In the case of Mr Moon, improvements are also to be effected ; drainage attended to, stable floored, and other recommendations attended to. Both applicants were informed by the chairman that the licenses were issued only on the conditions that the publicans fulfilled the requirements of the Act, conducted their houses well, provided good accommodation for the public, no Sunday trading, nor supplying liquor to the natives, &c. Frosts.—for one or two nights past frost has prevailed in some parts of the district, those on Saturday and Sunday nights being very sharp, causing damage to early potatoes, &c. Welcome To Mr La Trobe.—Thursday evening next is the time appointed for the school children and their friends to give the reception and welcome home to Mr La Trobe, who is expected to be in Raglan today or to-morrow.
