Mr Iviv.-nrd Lake addressed a meeting of tho oleclots in the Te Awamntu Public ll.ali la.-t Wednesday night. There was a good attendance, and Mr James Walton, chairman of the Town Board, was voted to tho chair.

Mr Like, who was received with applause, p.tvo a lengthy address, in which lie criticised and condemned most strongly the on jost and alarming taxation proposals and the faddish land policy of the present Government. lie also spoke about their secret borrowing ; their extravagance ; their scatter-cash system of public works, and touched generally on other matters. Kxcept that ho went into figures and spoko more fully, and if anything more con damnatory, his speech was similar to tho one delivered in Hamilton last Tuesday, so there is no need to repeat it.

At the conclusion of tho address, in answer to a question of Mr Banrsley, Mr Lake said he would ho only too glad to give way to Mr Bryca, if he should ever think of leturning to l'arliamont.

Mr Johns then proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Lake for his address, and of conlidence in him a.s their representative.

This was seconded by Mr Hunt nnd carried unanimously.

A vote of thanks to the ch lir concluded a very successful meeting.
