A CoMI'KNSATION CouiiT under the Public Works Act, ISB2, in re Hill Brothers versus the Waikato County Council was opened at Huntly on Tuesday afternoon. Captain Jiiclcson, R.M. presided, and Maseru F. R. Clauiio and T. 11. White acted us assessors respectively for the Council and Hill Brothers. Mr W. M. Hay appeared as counsel for tlui Waikato County Council, and Mr J. A. Tolo for the plaintilfa and he asked the Court for an adjournment in order to sue if the case could not bo settled, as judging from the number of witnesses present (about 25) if the case had to be fought out it would mean a very great expense to one party or the other. An adjournment was granted for an hour but on the Court resuming it was announced that no arrangement had been made as the two counsel could not agree as to tho amount of compensation. It was then nettled that the court and certain witnesses should proceed to Matahura to-day (Wednesday) to inspect tho ground and the court was adjo irned until 0 o'clock on Thursday morning when the case will bo fully gone into as no prospect of a settlement now seems possible. ___
