ROAD BOARD MEETING.

Seddon was unanimously elected chairman, vice Mr H. J. Kallendar resigned. Puketitu Road. —Mr Turner was authorised to aspen i a sum not exceeding £10 upon effecting repairs on this road. T>vo small accounts were passed for paymerit and tho meeting broke up, the members wishing to attend the horse sale.

CAMBRIDGE ROAD BOARD. This body met at Hewitt's Hutol, Cambridge, on Saturday. Present : Messrs Paton, Forrest, Bailey, Taylor and Pickering. CH.MHMAV.—Mr James Forrest was unanimously elected chairman, vice Mr Kallendar, resigned.—Mr Forrest said he had done his best to get their former chairman (Mr J. Taylor) to consent to be reelected but tint gentleman had declined, as his business would not allow of his attending regularly. Finance.—'Thanks to the rate collector's assiduity, the Board had a credit balance at date of £13. Fkncouut Road.—Mr Bailey said about 40 chains of this road was in a bad state and needed gravelling. He and the Chairman were authorised to inspect the road, and call for tender; for the. work, the amount expended not to oxceed £12. Hospital and Chakitahu; Aid.—The Chairman ask'id what was to be done abrit the €70 due to the Hospital Board. He did not think thore was anything in either the Counties or Road Boards Acts lliat authorised them to pay it, and he for one should object to make an illegal payment. He felt sure they could be surcharged if the Auditor-General thought fit, and there was no knowing, when that officer might not coma dowu on them. They had escaped so far, but that was no guarantee that they might continue to make illegal payments. He thought tho County Council should strike a special rate. Kveryone would then know what the Hospital was costing them.-Tho Clerk said a rate of eleven sixteenths of a penny in the; £ on the r'ding would produce £81. He snirfrested tho Board should pay the amounts due this year, and next year they could get the Hospital Board to make the Road Board a " contributing body."— The Chairman objected and it was unani- \ inously resolved not to pay the amount, so
