Local opinion s-eim to be. divided as to the wisdom of the step taken hy Mr Bryce, but no doubts are entertained as lo the motives which have actuated him. The prospect of a fresh election just now is regarded as a great inconvenience. However, electors reilise that a new member must he sent down, and so hn- as I can gather Mr hike's candidature is favourably view's), other names are mentioned m connection with the seat, but electors are wise enough to see that any division among themselves simply means handing over the citadel to tho enemy. The candidature of Dr. Broome is re garded as an absurdity. Mil Hlv.iiks' Farm'.—l am glad to mention that after a long period ot vacancy Mr Hughes' farm, better known as " Day's," is again about to be occupied, the tenant this time being a Mr Walters, from Pukekohe.
