R.M. COURT, HAMILTON.
Yesterday. — (Before Captain Jackson, R.M.) Fimious Riding. — John Collins was charged, on tho information of Constable Murray, with having ridden furiously along ii public street, to wit Grey-street, Hamilton East, (in tho 2(ith A-iißust. Mr L. O'Neill appeared for the defendant, and pleaded guilty. On behalf of his client he expressed his regret, and said that he would nut nffeni] again. He asked that a light line bo inHictod. Tho polico did not press for a heavy penalty, and a fine of 10s and costs (ll<) was im|ws«d. Eduecumuk v. Lkwis.—Claim Ms (id for printing aud advertising. This was i> case brought by Mr Edgecumbe, piopnetor of Tub Waikato Timks, against Michael Lewis, who, with another, went through tho district as professionals, giving entertainments, in which the defendant appeared as "The Whistler." There was no uppearsinse of defendant. The plaintiff, mi being sworn, said that ho did not b.ing the case so much to recover the amount, as in order to give publicity to the actions of this class of people, who went through the district no doubt victimising many others as well as himself. Tha present defendant was the son or respectable parents in Auckland, hut he seemed to prefer this vagrant sort of life to earning his living in a respectable manner. His Worship said that nn doubt many people were victimised by this sort of PH.iple, but under the presout law their victims had very little reeouiso. Judgment was given for plaintiff for the full amount and costs.
