HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council was hold in the Council Chambers at 8 o'clock on Tuesday evening, when there were present : His Worship the Mayor Mr I. Coates (in the chair), and Cis. Tijipen, Slade, Parr, Dey, Bell, Wood, and Scott. j - , ~ Sm.e \AR()«—Iu order to admit of tbe extension of the sale yards, Mr Webster offered to let tho two acres adjoining the yards for £21 per annum for 20 years.— Letter received. K:nn.—Mr J. Steadman wrote calling attention to the state of tho road fronting Mr Coate.i' |>ro|>erty, leading to the gravel liit at Hamilton Kast.— Referred to the foreman of works with jiower to act. Hospital Contribution.—The Ilosjiital Board requested the payment of £30, the balance of the contribution duo by the Council.—lt was decided to pay the amount as soon as funds will allow. Sheep Acts.—Mr Sutton ft>rward3d cojiies of the Sheep. Cattle, and Branding Acts. DRAIN.—M'' S. Davis wrote drawing attention to tho state of the drain between lots 279 and 280, which requires piping for about two chains.—Left in the hands of the foreman of works, with power to act. Bukoess Roll.—Mr T. Buxton applied to be placed on the burgess roll as lessee of the Royal Hotel, in Jilace of Mr A. SslmUzo.—The application was eranted. "Town Clerk.—The town clerk npjilied for an increase of salary. During the two vears he had been employed various offices had boon added, increasing tho work and responsibility. — The discussion on this matter was deferred to the next meeting. Rkports.— The foreman of works reported that during tho month a drain had been put in at the salo yards, bridge approaches repaired, 24 chains at No. 1 bridge formed and other small works carried out. He recommended that 55 chains on the Ohaupo road bo reformed.—Tho report was received and adojited.—The ponndkeeper's report showed that during July two horses and four cattle had been impounded and 19s collected in fees.-The report was received. Payments.—The following accounts were passed for payment:—W. Dey, 2s 2J; Kauri Timber Company, £;> Is lOd; G. Mayes, £1 7s Gd ;R. Waite, 17s; J. Devitt, £112s Od; J. Ridler, 8s; T. Slade, (is.— The clerk reported that the account was £34 in credit. Shekp Pens.—Tho Mayor said that Mr McNicol had pointed out to him the necessity of increasing the accommodation for the sale of sheep. He showed exactly what was wanted, but as it was not possible to obtain the land adjoining, tho Mayor wrote to the Minister of Lands applying- that lots 43, 11, and 45 on tho other side of Victoria Street bo vested in the borough as an endowmont, on which shee|> jiens could bo nroctod. A letter was also written to Mr Bryco asking him to urge this matter as tho erection of these yards are a great nocessity — Tho clerk was instructed to wire to Mr Bryco again asking him to keep this matter before the Minister.
Band Instrument-!.—Tho Mayor drew attention to tho fact that Mr Schnlt/.e, one of the Hiiroties for tho band instruments, had left tho district, and tho clork was instructed to request tho socretary to submit some other name as surety. Hamilton East Baths.—Tho Mayor gavo notice to move at next meeting that
the Hamilton Hist Inths be put up for ■ notion lor removal. He said that they were a source of gruat annoyance to |ier.sons living near, owinjr to tho lanßiiaßO and behaviour of those frequenting the baths. GtiAVKr,.—Cr. Parr moved that in the event of tho Board of Education lending to gravel the Hamilton West school grounde tho Council grant tho u-ravel free of charge-.— Seconded by the Mavnr and carried. Willows.—Tho Foreman of Works was instructed to plant willows along the river bank from Webb's corner to the Hamilton West baths.—Mr S. Davis and the Mayor offered to give a snpph' of willows.
