RECEPTION 10 MR HENRY REYNOLDS.
Tn accordance with a notice appearing in Thk Waik.yto Times, a meeting of thoso interested in according a public welcome to i\lr Henry Reynolds on bis return to Waikato was held in The Waikato Times Buildings on Saturday afternoon. There were present : Messrs A. Primrose, T. Hicks, C. Birtnn, Jno. McNicol, J. Hume, W. A. Graham, S. Patto, (i. W. Sare, R. Henry, ft. Edcecumbo, J. Knnx, R. F. Sindo*, C. Hibbs. and Captains McPherson and R'incimin.
Mr Primrose, as convenor nf the meoting, was voted to the chair. Ho said that there was no doubt that Mr Reynolds deserved somo public recognition, for the work that he had been doing must ultimately benefit the whole distiict. Apart from that, ho thought that they should also mont him as n private resident, for Mr Itiivnolds had been connected with Waikato and Waikato interests for many years.
Mr T. Hicks (Pukekura) said that there was no doubt Mr Reynolds was a benefactor to the settlers and to the colony. He had ridden 20 miles to attend tho meeting, and ho would go home satisfied, knowing that Mr Reynolds would have a suitable public reception. He would move, "That in view of the successful efforts of Mr Reynolds in oxtending the sale of butter and produce in London, the farmors and business people of the Waikato should demonstrate their appreciation of his work bv giving him a public reception on his return to the Waikato."
Mr W. A. Graham, in seconding the motion, said that Mr Reynolds had always been one of tho foremost in promoting any movement for the benefit of the farming community. The quostion was iu what way should they meet. him. There was no doubt that Mr Reynolds should be accorded a hearty welcome, not only as a friend, but as a recognition of the work he had done for the colony while in England.
The motion was then put and carried unanimously.
Captain McPherson then moved that the reception take the form of a public banquet, to bo hold in Hamiltou, Seconded by Mr Jas. Hume and carried unanimously. The following committee, with power to add to their number, wasthon appointed to carry out the details :—Messrs A. Primrose, G. Edgecumbe, E. 13. Cox, T. Hicks, E. C. Shepherd, Jno. McNicol, E. Fitzpatrick, F. C. Germann, Jas. Walton, R. J. Gwynne, Jno. Fisher, W. A. Graham, John Knox, and Captains Runciuian and McPherson.
Mr C. J. W. Barton, secretary of the Hamilton Branch of the Waikato Farmers' Club, kindly consented to act as hon. sec, and he was asked to commnnic-ite with the firm of Messrs Reynolds and Co., of Auckland, to ascertain when Mr Reynolds would be likely to be in Hamilton.
Mr G. Edgocnmbe said that there would be some who would not be able to attend the banquet, and ha suggested that as many as could make it convenient should met Mr Reynolds at the Hamilton West railway station.
On the motion of Mr John MoNicol, seconded by Mr T. Hicks, the price of the tickets to the banquet was fixed at 10s 6d, and the committee were instructed to issue them as soon as posible, so as to ascertain the number that would be likely to attend the banquet. Mr John Kno\- said that if necessary he would be ploased to place tho Public Hall at the disposal of the committee for the banquet. Votes nf thanks to Mr Knox and the chair brought the meeting to a close.
