Hudson, Pukckohe. The Council adjourned into committee, and ou returning Cr. Hollis proposed, ami Cr. Nash seconded, that Mr \V. Littlfjo'in be appointp.l engineer to the Council, winch .vas carried unanimously. The following motion, standing in tho name of Cr. K'hv.ird.i, was carried, iißin ilis :— "That in viiuv of the Public Works Statement in tlin House of Representatives by tho .Minister for that Department, a committee of this Council be appointed with power to cilia public meeting or to exercise their discretion in any way whatsoever. what the Government may do ro the Tβ Aroln-Paero;> railway in the name of tills Council."
(ius AuciniiNT :— A narrow escape from a serious accident occurred a day or two ■ig«, a lad named Maiden picking up a loaded gun and unwittingly tired it at his brother; the boy was not much hurt, a few pellets hitting him in the shoulder and one near his eye. It is wondorful how we have escaped a number of gnu accidents during the .shouting season. It is quito common to see lads of 11 or 12 with their gun and bag firing at anything in the shape of a bird with a cheerful disregard of anything past their quarry, When some cue gets killed there will be an outcry. Mining Matteus.— Another larce consignment of bullion was sent to the National Bank to-day (Wednesday) per Ruby from tho Waihi Company. Mr Thos. Russell has left Waihi for Waitekauri, and a gentleman named Barry, specially sent from the Cape goldtields has taken his place, County Ki.ection.— The election for the vacant seut in the County Council for tho Karangahake Riding takes place on the ■Jlst instaut.
