FIRES IN DUNEDIN.

(BV TELEGRAPH.— PIiESS ASSOCIATION'). DuXEDIN, List Night. Three fires have occurred iii the city since Saturday. A four-roomed house at Kaikorai, owned and occupied by Mr Ludlow, and insured for £250, was burned down.

A fire was discovered last evening in the premises of Messrs Levy and Guthrie, clothing manufacturers. The firm hold a policy over their stock and machinery for £220 in tho South British, and £300 in the Equitable, but the amount of that insurance is greatly exceeded by tho value of the stock. Messrs Bing, Harris and 00. had a large quantity of stock in the factory, also being made up into clothing and this was insured in the Union Office for £1000. The number of persons to whom employment was given in the factory is eighty. A considerable amount of damage was done to the stock of shopkeepers whoso premises wero below the clothing factory as tho water simply poured down through tho top floor into the shops underneath. Taylor, mercer, was the largest sufferer. His stock and fittings were insured for £800 in tho Commercial Union Office. Shaw's jewellery stock was insured for £800 in the New Zealand, and Johnston's ironmongery was insured for £1500, divided equally between the Standard, Victoria, and Guardian Offices. The building of which Johnston is the lessee was insured for £1000 in the Norwich Union Office.

Two small cottages in King-street were burned this morning. MeClure, who occupied one was rescued in a. dazed condition by Constable Crawley.
