FOREST TREE PLANTING.

On several occasions during the laat two months we have directed attendnn fco the subject of forest tree planting, pointing out that a small expenditure and attention in this direction would amply repay all the trouble and outlay. Tho School of Forestry at Whnngarci have lately distributed to the local bodies throughout the Auckland province a catalogue of forest trees that have been raised at that institution, and which are offered to tho public at extremely low prices. Upon this subject the chairman of the Whangarei County Council has written to us, and wo have much pleasure in publishing tho letter, and trust it may be the means of again directing attention to this very important subject. County Office, Whangarei, July 10th, ISfll.— Sir,—Will you kindly call the attention of country settlers to the fact that we have for distribution, at a nominal cost, a large number of forest and shelter trees. We have sent catalogues to all the different county councils and road boards throughout the Auckland province, which can be seen at their respective offices. The trees have been raised at the School of Forestry, Whangarei, and are all in a hoalthy condition and tit for transplanting, and will bo packed carefully to bear transport to any distance. As the forestry is a colonial concern, it should be made widely known, so that settlers, may avail themselves of the benefit. Trusting that y..u will publish this in your valuable paper.—l have the honour to be, Sir, your obedient servant, P. Stuht Biiow.N, County Chairman.
