POTATOES.
Tmk lew prices ruling for potatoes has been the means of keeping back many Waikato grown, lots from being placed upon the Auckland market. We have been informed upon good authority that so great was the glut of potatoes iu that market a short time ago that several consignments sent up from the Fast Coast districts netted nothing whatever to the growers, the proceeds of sale being absorbed by freights and charges. So far ar, this district is concerned, although less than the usual acreage was grown, crops were fairly good, and a considerable tonnage of the roots are awaiting a rise in prices. Of these, a good quantity will come from the Waipa, Mr W. Reid having about forty tons and other settlers in proportion. From recent advices we gather that the Auckland demand is becoming brisker, and this is a pretty sure forerunner of a rise iu prices. Wo iiuve very little doubt (as wo pointed out earlier in the season) that sound and good keeping potatoes will yet bo saleable at remunerative piices.
