Walter llmnly, a youth, wlio was described by Constable Konnian as " leader of a gang of small boys in Ponsnnbv," was sentenced to one month's imprisonment, Sir William Fox remarking that this was one of a class of individuals they were sorry to see so many of in this town—a class which must have, a prejudicial influence in the future. It was a scandal and a disgrace to the community, and he was glad they had got, the leader of such a ring of them—one who hms responsible, anil who would now bo imprisoned for one month, with hard labour. A y.auif, man named Frederick Pollen was fined i'lo for attempting to drive a vehicle over a crossing at Moiuingsido on the 2nd of June, when an engine and carriages were within a qu irter of a mile. The s.s. Ovalau, the Union Company's new steamer for the Auckland-Fiji trade, arrived at I'ort Ch diners on Saturday nicrlit from Glasgow, after a voyage of 57 days. Sho is a line steel steamer of 1200 tons gross register, with engines 1000 hrrsepower. TheOvalan will cotne to Auckland shortly and supersede the Taupo in the Fiji trade.
