FIRE AT TAMAHERE.
About four o'clock on Saturday afternoon Mr \V. Cowley's house at Tamahere was burnt to tho ground. The (ire originated it seems, in a similar way to so many of the fires in this part of the colony. Shortly before three o'clock Mrs Cowley emptied a lot of ashes at the back of the house, and these were, it is supposed, blown in under the house, and had set fire to tho flooring. Mrs Cowluy discovered the fire in one place, and succeeded in getting it out only to find that it had a hold in several other places, and as there was no one else about, Mr Cowley being in Cambridge, she was unable to cope with the fl noes, and directed her attention to saving the furniture, and fortunately succeeded in getting the piano and sewing machine safely out of the burninn building. Some, neighbours came over as quickly as possible, but Were too late to be of any assistance. The bouse, a seven roomed one, was together with which was not burnt, insured for €105, and the furniture for £125.
