PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL
Engineers Report.—Mr T. G. Sandes reported as follows :—1 have to report that I have finally inspected Isaac's road and passed it. Everything has been done that I reported was required, except one small cutting, and this I have arranged to get done afc once. Mr Isaacs has spent £80 on the road since I first inspected it. I have inspected all the roads in the Pate tare riding since last meeting, round Hinueru, Oxford, etc., and I have to leport that all the repairs authorised have been carried out on the Cambridge Tauranga road. The bad spot at Hinuern has been repaired at a 2ost of £1 10s (£5 was authorised). The repairs to the road between Mangawhara and the bush have been made at a c.ist of £4 10s (t'ii was also authorised for this), and the clearing at Stamford bridge lias been partially done, but owing to bad weather could not be burned olf. I send in vouchers for the repairs that have been done. The rain on Friday night and Saturday has done a lot of damage to various roads, but nothing to stop traffic as far as I know, except on the Cambridge-Tauranga road, between Mr Walker's and Mrs Bates', where a fourfoot box culvert failed to carry the water, and the road waß partly washed away. I have had it repaired at a cost of £1, as traffic was completely stopped pending the repairs. I have forwarded to the Survey Office plans of Walker's road deviation, and of Mrs Bates' conveyance to the Council, and the advertisements for the closing of the old road can bo started at once. I inspected the Ciiiibridge-Oxford road, the Cambridge-Taupo road, and the CambridgeTauranga road, tlio maintenance) of which wore recently let to Mr Wattain. The Cambridge-Oxford road is in very fair condition, and the contractor has evidently paid attention to it. On the Tanpo road little has been done, and I have written to the contractor warniug him to hurry up with his clearing. The road on the whole is in very fair condition, although a great portion of it was under water after the late heavy raina.—l would recommend that the bolts of the Aniwhaniwa bridge be screwed up and the bridge be thoroughly cleaned down as it badly requires it The cost would not exceed 15s. —With regard to the OxfordMatamata road repairs, I have not been able to get a surface man to go on the job, and I have had nothing dono so far. I have now an offer from Mr B. Ward to put the bad places in order for £0. This is slightly over what I was authorised to spend—viz., one month for a surfaceman, but I think the offer should be accepted. Mr Ward offers to maintain the road for one year for £17, which would mean in all £2U for the year. The road in question extends from the Oxford school-house to the oat paddock on the boundary of the Auckland Agricultural Company's ground, a distance of about five miles or a little over.—l send forward voucher* for work done by Shine and Walker on the OxfordMatamata and Cambridge-Tauranga roads respectively.—Mr 13. Ward's offer to repair the Oxford-Matainata road was deferred till the next meeting. Mr Sandes was instructed to get the Aniwhaniwa bridgo over the Waikato cleaned as suggested in hi.* report.—The report was then adopted. Waioronuomai UltmuE.—-The clerk was instructed to write to tho Minister of Marine reminding him of his promise to Cr. J. >S. Browne, to cause tho bridge over tho Waihou at Waiorougomai to be legalised, also to request that the m itter may receive immediate attention.
A Koaij Wanted.—The matter of a road toßangitainuku through Mr King's property wan discussed, and several councillors thought it would be only right to point out. where the road would probably bo made. Mr Kuudes was inatructod to inspect the laud, aud report at the next meeting of the Council. This closod the luaoting.
