WAIKATO SHEEP RETURNS.
The sheep returns for the Wailcato district for the year ending April 30th last, have just been compiled, and show that during the year there has been au increaso of 77,391, the total number of sheep in the district being 313,454, as against 236,063 in 1890. New owners during that period have acquired 30,602, while the old owners havo increased their Hocks by 45,739. The following are the numbers held iu the various sub-divisions during the two years : — Piako: 1890, 100.7G4 ; 1891, 147,363; increase, 37.599. Waikato: 1890, 49,423; 1891, 66,233; increase, IG,BIO. Waipa: 1890, 83,845; 1891, 48,390; increase, 14,545. Raglan : 1890, 10,725; lb9l. 11,433; increase, 713. West Taupo and Kawliia: 1890, 12,771; 1891, 20,809; iucroaae, 8,038. Tauranga: 1890, 19,535 ; 1391, 19,221 ; decrease, 314. Tho returns have lieou placed at our disposal through tho coin tesy of Mr Sutton, the newly appointed siioep inspector for the district.
