RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT, CAMBRIDGE.
Yksxeiidav.—(Before Captain Jackson, R.M.) Dishonoured Pill.—E. Hewitt v. R. Blake. This was a claim for £20 lGs Gd on a dishonoured bill, and i! 7 4s interest due thereon. Mr Dyer appeared for plaintiff. Judgment for amount claimed and costs, £4 14s. Splitting Stiuw.—Ed. Allen v. J. Trewin, claim £0, for straw supplied. Mr Hay appeared for plaintiff and Mr Hally for defendant. Mr Hay said the claim was for 30 loads of straw eold by plaintilf to defendant on condition that it was removed by the Ist April, 1880, as plaintiff's right to cross a certain paddock expired on that date. Twenty-two loads only had been removed, and though plaintiff had repeatedly applied to defendant for r. settlement he had been unable to obtain it, and as defendant was about to leave tho district plaintiff had been compelled to take legal action to recover. The evivence in this case was very voluminous, and occupied a considerable timfl. It appeared that plaintiff had leased 110 acres of wheat at Pukekura from Mr H. Reynolds, for which he paid £200, the conditions being that they were each to liava an equal share of the straw, l'laiutiff sold a portion of his share to Trewin, and after some of it had been removed, auother claimant for tha straw appeared in the person of Mr Richard Reynolds. The caso dragged wearily through the day, a deal of. hard swearing being done ; indeed the Magistrate said it was a leap in tho dark for anyone ; however eventually he gave judgment for plaintiff for £2 17s 6d, and costs £1 13a Gd.
