RAGLAN LICENSING COMMITTEE.

T(l TilK KDITori. Sir,—Several correspondents have favoured the general public through thu columns of your paper with their ideas of our Licensing Committee, but, Sir, the effusion that appeared in your paper of Saturday lanfc was about as truthful as Falstaffs account of the tight, and as I read it, Sir John's figure seemed to pass before ihp, and with t'lime Henry let me say, "Mark ymi how a plain tale «hall put you down." Thu (Mimnilluo are composed of, with olio exception, it ia true, temperance men, but, Sir, I have yot to learn that men who hold such piincipli'.s aro to be deprived »f their rights as uiti.wns. Two of them have been commissioners for two years previously, and three for one year, so there hus been no sudden change, They were duly nominated and returned without opposition. True it; is that a majority voted for an increase of licenses, but is it not true that one property owner here had busied himself to get amia volera to come in, in order to make his property of more value, he then having it on tho market. I challenge contradiction when I eay tho committee as such, nor their nominators had the slightest intention of refusing all the licenses, but simply through the neglect of those who applied, the committee, uuder Section 50 of the Licensing Act of 1882, had no power to grant either of the applications. The licenses were simply refused because tho law had not been complied with. Had the applicants not neglected to carry out the plniti requirements of the law, I am sure tha result of the licensing meeting would have been different. —Yours truly, Pakeha Maow.
