C'jintv OtTicKHs.—At Saturday's County Council meeting it was icsolved that tilts iiflice of foreman of works be abolished, and that applications lie called for tho services of a competent engineer at a salary of £,'2OO per annum. Mr Tho*. Shaw was appointed forest ranger at a salary of tt"> per annum and .~) per cent, on kauri revenue. Tho Warden has consented to make the ranger an officer of his department in orde.r to giverum a locus .standt when enquiring us to timber cut.
KbKUTOiiAL.—Several telegrams have been received by local residents from members of the Government aiid others in favour of Colonel Kraser's candidature, and, as Mr Cadinan has left many pleasant recollections of himself with u.s, many doubtful votes have l;een decided in the colonel's favour.
Mining.—Some splendid ore in coming to baud in the Crown mine, and some of the specimens aru to be sent to tho Glasgow directors. As soon a* the Cassell plant is ready to treat ore for the public, thero will ho an immense revival in mining at KaranfMhake.
