PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL.

The above body met at Morrinsville on Tuesday, at 11 a.m. Present: Crs. Chepmell (chairman), Herries, Hunt, Harrison, Hanmer, Browne, Horrell and Heiney. The adjourned annual meeting for passing the balance-sheet was, again adjourned, as the accounts had not yet been audited. A special meeting was then held to increase the To Aroha special rate from }d to id in tho &. This having been done, the minutes of the previous monthly meeting were read and duly confirmed. Tub TitAMWAY Business Fixed at Last.—Mr Swarbriek, on behalf of Mr W. M. Hay, waited on the Council and explained that the release prepared by Mr Hay had been slightly altered by tho lessee's solicitors in so far as to make the release release all paities connected therewith, whereas Mr Hay had only inado it for tho Council to release the other parties, and for them to release the Council He naiii tho alteration would nut nlFoct the. Council ; it merely affected tho other p:'.rtie«, who all would relnaso each other.— The £1000 had not yet been received from the bondsmen, and a resolution was passed authorising tho chairman and two councillors to affix the seal of the Council to the release, and to cancel the bonds a soon as the £1000 has been lodged to the credit of the county fund. Okokoikk Koad.—Mr W. M. Hay wrote: "1 have applied to Mr Hume a groat many times to sign the transfer of tho abovc-uieiitioned road, and ho now replies that he cannot consent to the load as laid out by tho Council's engineer. Kindly instruct me further.' , —On November 22ud, 1880, Mr Hume had written the engineer (Mr Sindes) that he had no objection to the road being made, providing he was not put to any expense.—lt was resolved to instruct Mr Hay to again present the deed for signature, and in the evcut of Mr Hume sLill declining to sign it, that ho inform him that tho Council will proceed under "The Public Works Act."—Some of the councillors thought Mr Home had refused to sign the deed in consequence of the Council not having altered a road, as requested by him. HLAVeHTEItnou.SK IjICKN.sh —Mr George Walker applied for :i renewal of iiis slaughtering license at Mangawhara.— Granted.

Shiuo applied for an increase of 10 days time in which to complete No. 15 contract nix the OxfordMaUnmti road —The engineer did not report favourably upon tho application.—lt was resolved not to grant the extension. Okomohk-Lichkikm) Koad.—Mr Isaacs asked the Ccnncil to take the above road over.— Tha Engineer said tho road had been placed upon the survey block sheets as a road.— Cr. Browne asked if it would be a district road, as only a short time since the riding ratepayers held a poll and most emphatically dicinVl that this road should not bo made. It appeared the road was now made and tho ratepayers would have to maintain it.—The Council agreed to take the road.—Mr Sandes was instructed ti> examine a further portion of this road and report upon its state ot next meeting. CAMBKinoK-TAuro Road.—The following letter was received from the Survey Office at Wellington, re the grant asked for this road : I am requested by the Minister of Linds to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 16th ultimo, addressed to the Minister of Public Works, asking for a gi-ant of £100 for repairing tho Cambridge to Taupo Hoiid in West Taupo County. In reply 1 am to state that no funds are available for expenditure on this road ; and Hon. Mr McKenzie iegrets therefore that he is unable to entertain your application.—Received.

Weir substituted for hers upon the roll for property at Tuaraparaharaha.—The clerk was instructed to take the necessary steps to comply with this application. ASouAiiiH.K.-Mr 11. W. Dyer, of Hamilton, telegraphed the Council to impound all money due to James Shine, a.s a client of his noined Broiinty, cUiiuud to bo a paitnor with Shine.—Tho Council resolved not to comply with tho request, as Shine was the Individual who had signed tho contract with the Council.

WamakaU BlilDCE.—Cγ. Hemes reported that ho had opened tenders for the extension of the above bridge ; but ho hud not accepted any of them as they were all much higher than the engineer's estimate, and ho thought it hotter to rsfor tho matter to the Council.—The tenders wore: James Lave.ry itfO 10s, and James Mills £sS.—The engineer's rough estimate was WO, but upon measuring the work he found it would cost about i'u'O.—Mr Mills' tender was accepted. DiuiNAUK.—Mr Favitt reportod that the drain between Waihon and To Arohn required cleaning, and would cost about £1)0. —It was resolved to do the work.

ThbTkamway Again.—Cr. Ilaninersiid the ropes upon the tramway were getting worn out, especially upon the fern spur, and when the Council re-entered upon tho property if any accident happened the Council would bo liable. He thought a coiiiirittce should bo appointed to take over tho property and make arrangements for tho future carrying on of it.—The Chairman said new ropes would he required, and that would take seme time as t.liny could not bo purchased nearer thau Sydney.—A committee, consisting of the chairman, Crs. Hemes and Hanmer, was appointed to take over the tramway, to ascertain what ropes were required and order name, and effect any necessary repairs ; or to stop the tramway if they conflidered it advisable to do so.

Ouu'rt CiiNTilAOT.—Cr. Herries called attention to the fact that James Orr had excoeded tlio time of his contract by three weeks, and rendered himself liable] to a fine of £2 per week.—As there appeared to have been a mistake about the time from which an extension had been granted, it was decided to fine him £2 only. Waiohoxgdmai.— Cr. Hemes also spoke of Rminett's contract in Kilgour-street not being completed in due time, and he moved that the fine ba enforced.—The Engineer said the contractor had been doinf? extra work.—The Council hardly thought it would be fair to enforce the fine, and as no ono seconded the motion it lapsed.

Tenhbus.—The following tenders were received for drainage on the Thames-Wai-kato road, near salo yards at Waihou :— Reuben I'arr, £29 ; John Robinson. £3(5 5s ; Voysey and Sweeney, £38 ; Win, Thompson, .t'3'J 17s.— Mr Parr's tender was accepted.

Tbkks.—(Jr. Haunier said trees should be planted upon the approaches to the WaiorouKomai bridge. The trees and fencing would cost fO or £7. —It was resolved to curry out Cr. Hanmer's suggestion.
