DISTRICT OF WAIKATO HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

Tiie usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held in the Hamilton Borough Council Chambers at 11 30 a.m. yeste-day. Present : Messrs Primrose (chairman) Suddon, Teasdale, McGuirk, McPherson, Coates and Heaney.

Saok.—Mr Teasdali moved that one-half of Sage's account of I'O 4s be remitted and that he be allowed to pay so much a month. Seconded by Mr Seddon. Gapt. McPherson and Mr Coates spoke very strongly against this action as it would lead to the Board being imposed upon. The motion was then put and carried, the voting being: For, Messrs Seddon, Teasdale, McGuirk and Heaney ; acainst, The chairman, Cupt McPherson and Mr Coates. The motion was declatod carried.

Hicton.—Mr H. It. Hicton of Huntly wrote stating that he was not at present able to contribute anything towards his hospital fees, but would do so as soon as possible. Letter received. Fkazkii.—The Secretary, on the information of the police, reported that he had granted a young erirl, Annie Fr.izer, who is destitute, relief of 12s a week until the meeting of the Board. The girl expects to be confined in about a month, the young man with whom she had been keeping company being .Tames O'Neill. She had been living with Mrs O'Neill, who had turned her out and in her present condition she was unable to work. Tne action of tho Secretary was confirmed.

Maonku.— Mrs Magner wrote stating that at present she is unable to pay anything towards her hospital account of £20 Bs, her only income being 0s 4d per week, her husband's pension. If at any time she wore able to pay tho whole or part of the amount she would gladly do 60. Letter received.

Admission to Hospitai..—Tho clerk to tho Wnipa County Council wrote on May 2Gth : " I ain directed to bring under the notice of your Board the inconvenience to the public caused by the existing regulations for the admission of patients to the hospital and to suggest that all members of local bodies contributing to the hospital funds, as well as members of the Hospital Board should be authorised to issue orders for admission. I am al o to suggest the advisability of making the hospital regulations more widely known as many people appear to reach the hospital doors before they lind out the necessity tor an order for admission perhaps printed placards at the various Post Offices would meet the case. Mr Teasdale moved that power be granted to all members of County Councils to issue authority for admission to the Hospital. Seconded by Mr McGuirk. Mr Seddon moved that this matter be deferred till next meeting. Seconded by Capt. McPherson. The amendment was carried.

Complaint.—Mr Donald Mnnro wrote to .Mr Teasdale as member of the Board as follows : I beg to state that a child of mine having cut his foot with a scythe, I took him to the Hospital for treatment. The doctor being absent a nurse looked at the injury but said I must see the doctor about it. I then took the child to l)r. Kenny's house and he attended to it, hut having no order to admit to Hospital, I was charged and paid the doctor his charge, the child was immediately after taken to the Hospital and admitted. I knew nothing aboutan order being required but went to tho Hospital as a matter of course for ordinary treatment. Mr Teasdale said that the outsettlers did not derive the same advantage from the Hospital doctor as the Hamilton people did, he being compelled to keep within a radius of two or three miles, and ho thought the doctor should be allowed to go in cases of life and death. —The Chairman said that in the case of severe accidents, or where a consultation was necessary, lie had always allowed the doctor to #o, but he had never gone without permission. The doctor being absent, the matter was deferred till next meeting, the Chairman remarking that tho letter contained a charge which it would be necessary for the doctor to bo present to answer. Mitchell. —The police at Hamilton wrote, stating that Sarah Mitchell had walked from Cambridge to Hamilton, her father having turned her out. Tho girl being in a destitute condition, it was decided to grant her temporary relief. —The Secretary was instructed to write to her father, informing him that relief had been granted to his daughter, and that it would be charged to hiir.. Ewart.—Mr J. D. Hill applied that an old man named Robt. Ewart, who has been living for some years at Alexandra, be admitted to tho Refuge. Ewart is over SO years of age, and has a little means. —Tho matter was referred to Mr Teasdale, with power to act. Secretary's Rki'Ort.—The secretary in his monthly report stated that 25 persons were receiving charitable aid, and 13 inmates in the Refuge, two of whom are contributing towards their maintenance. Finance: Credit balance, £23.") lis lOd ; subsidy due by Government, £50; contribution, £1255 ; £ for £, subsidy on same, £1 255 ; Hospital fees collected, £150 ; endowment fees, £30; total, £2975 lis lOd, less amount of accounts to be paid—£lß2 3s Bd, leaving an available balance of £2793 3s 2d. —'The report was received and adopted. Doctor's Report.—The doctor's monthly roport was received. lon Machine.—Dr. Kenny reported that a No. 3 Champion Ice Machine would be suitable to the requirements of the Hospital.—After some discussion the matter was deferred till next month. Hospital Fees.— In accordance with a resolution passed at last meeting, a statement of tho amount of Hospital fees owing was laid on the table. This was a formidable ono, the amount being over £900. — The meeting being a small one, tho matter was deferred to next meeting, the secretary in the meantime to forward the list of the amounts owing in the various districts to the several members in order to allow them to report upon the ability of the various debtors to pay. Dh. Cole.—The chairman reported that Dr. Cole had been appointed by the House Committee to tho charge of the Hospital during the month of Dr. Kenny's absence.

Rkmbk.—The usual relief was granted for the mouth, with the additions authorised.
