AN UNPLEASANT SURPRISE.
Thk stationmastor at Oxford (Mr Tumor) and his wife received quito an unpleasant surprise t:n Sunday night. They were awoke out of their sleep about 11-p.m. by someone who had got into their bedroom. Mr Turner challenged the intruder, but the only reply he received was a torrent of abusive and filthy language. Ho jumped out of bed and collared the individual, and after a tussle succeeded in throwing him out of the house. He than closod the door and ran for assistance, leaving his wife in a very frightened state. When ho returned, the only trace that could be found of the fellow was a hat Early on Monday Constable Bronnan, of Cambridge, who had been sent for, arrived on the scene, and he quickly spotted the culprit and walked him off to the Cambridge lock-up. The individual proved to be Harry Mattocks, aged about GO years, of Okoroire. On Tuesday he was brought up before Messrs Wells and Friostly, J.l\s, and was sentenced to one month for being illegally upon premises, and another one for using obscene language.
